Job Description:Director – Sequoia Nursery School Organization Description: Sequoia Nursery School is a non-profit parent cooperative located in the beautiful park setting of the Sequoia Lodge in the Oakland Hills. Established in 1947, we are a community of about 30 families, a director, and a teacher working together to create an ideal, play-based environment to support children’s growth emotionally, physically, socially, and intellectually. Sequoia is a half-day nursery school for preschool children ages 3 and 4. Position Summary: The Director holds the overall vision for the educational needs of the students. His or her overarching responsibility is to create and maintain a safe environment for children and to support their development, learning and social skills. S/he reports to and works closely with a volunteer Board of Directors to address all administrative functions of the organization, including ensuring licensing standards are met and the school is in compliance with other state regulations. In addition, the Director oversees the planning and daily administration of the school’s educational program and directly supervises the Teacher and participating parent workers each day. The Director position is a part-time position. The Director is expected to be on the school site from 8:30-12:15 Monday – Friday while school is in session, 175 days per year. The school calendar follows the Oakland Unified School District Calendar. In addition, Director participates in monthly evening Board meetings, parent conferences as requested, and approximately 5-7 additional evening meetings per school year that cover orientation, parent education, and mandatory parent meetings. The Director will also be in communication with the governing board over the summer.
